In a 5-4 decision the justices allowed the Biden administration to temporarily reinstate a rule regulating homemade guns, known as “ghost guns,” as firearms. The unsigned order allows the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives rule to remain in place while challenges continue in a lower court.

Civil rights “tester” asks court to dismiss case

Last month lawyers for a self-appointed civil rights “tester” in Acheson Hotels, LLC v. Laufer asked the Supreme Court to dismiss her case as moot. The justices declined to do so in a brief unsigned order. The court indicated, however, that they could still consider whether the case is moot at the oral argument on Oct. 4.
